Missing girl sailor found on Dutch Caribbean Island

    (ANI)

London, Dec. 21 : A 14-old girl, prevented by Dutch social workers from sailing solo around world, was found on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin on Sunday night after running away from home at the weekend.

Laura Dekker wanted to sail solo around the world and was placed under state supervision two months ago after social services thwarted her plans to become the youngest person to achieve the feat.

The Telegraph quoted child care authorities as saying the teenage sailor would be returned to The Netherlands from Saint Martin, in the Dutch Antilles near the Virgin Islands, as soon as possible.

Dekker was said by her family to be in a "negative spiral" after the Utrecht District Court placed her under the supervision of child care authorities in October, after forbidding her voyage in the summer.

The teenager, who has dual Dutch and New Zealand citizenship, was found after Dutch police issued an international airports alert.
